Why Moms Need Mom Walks?

During the first months postpartum, I was sick of being stuck inside the house and wanted to go outside for a walk. Marissa had organized a walk on the San Antonio Riverwalk and posted her event online. I met Marissa when I was two months postpartum and used my stroller for the first time during that walk. She shared her postpartum experience and offered advice on how to place a baby to sleep. After that first walk, I became an ambassador for the Mom Walk Collective in San Antonio.

We organized fun and free events around the city, such as picnics and bubble parties at the park, we met at the library or bookstores for story time, and we attended events at the school or the botanical garden. I enjoy the events because I don’t feel pressured to dress if I’m too tired, and all moms understand if my baby is fussy due to teething. The moms in the group offer advice and support. The moms in the group are also very diverse and from all backgrounds. Our kids also enjoy the events and get the opportunity to play in the playground or play area. Our events are free thanks to our local and national sponsors offering walk supplies. All moms are welcomed to our free events; we invite working moms, stay-at-home moms, moms struggling with postpartum depression, and moms who have experienced the loss of a child.
