Montessori Goodwill Finds

I wanted to share this post to encourage you to check out your local Goodwill or thrift store for Montessori toys or learning materials. Below are some of my Goodwill finds ranging from $1.50 to $2.99.

If you are starting to prepare your Montessori environment at home, Goodwill stores will quickly become your favorite Montessori Shop. You can find board books, baskets, wooden toys, plastic learning toys, trays, small wooden tables, and small bookshelves.

Here are some tips for shopping at Goodwill:

  • Look for small baskets that fit your Montessori play shelf. Ensure the baskets are light enough for your child to carry the basket.

  • Look for nice large baskets to place in your living room, if you have a separate play area for your child. For example, my daughter’s Montessori play shelf is in her room and we placed three large baskets downstairs with toys.

  • Small plastic pitchers to practice pouring in a small cup. For example, a plastic tea set could work perfectly for this activity.

  • Wooden Blocks, pull toys, or plastic shape sorters. Some popular brands that I try to hunt down at thrift stores are Melissa & Doug, Fisher Price, and Little Tikes.

  • Look for jars, pencil holders, and wooden boxes to organize art supplies.

I hope this post is helpful in incorporating thrift store finds as Montessori materials. Even if you don’t practice Montessori, the thrift store is a great place to look for toys and storage items for your child’s playroom.

Much love,

Carol
